Alberta Marriage Ceremony Legal Requirements

Alberta marriages are valid throughout the world, and one does not have to be a Canadian citizen or resident of Alberta to get married in our beautiful province.

All that is required is an Alberta Marriage License available at any Registry Office in the Province of Alberta. There is a fee for this license.

To obtain the license, both Bride and Groom must go to the Registry Office and each submit the following:

  • two pieces of identification - one must be photo ID (driver's license, passport)
  • parents' names and birthplaces
  • Mother's maiden name
  • final divorce degree, if either or both have been previously married
  • death certificate, if either or both are widowed
